Local Democracy week is, at its best, an energetic exchange of views about how Birmingham is run. It takes place across the city each October. The video below gives you a taste of what happened in 2008.
The 2009 Local Democracy week again offers you opportunities to get involved and this simple site lists some of the ways you can do that. You can search for events on a map, or look for those that happen in or near your neighbourhood by clicking on the place names to the right hand side.
Local democracy week is inspired by the Local Government Association, supported by Birmingham City Council, Be Birmingham, and incorporates the Local Hearts Awards for Birmingham’s big hearted active citizens.

Am I missing something here? I am plainly under the immense misunderstanding that democracy was a 24/7/52 sort of thing. But, then again, with the decisions being made which show so little, if any, regard for genuine local opinion and wishes, I guess one week in a year is as good an indicator as any of how much notice the Council takes of us.
