Organised by Birmingham City Council in conjunction with Nechells Ward and Strategic Partnership, there will be a consultation on the Big City Plan and the future of Highgate and Digbeth.

Erdington Library is offering a unique chance to explore the area’s local history with a brand new exhibition which will open during Local Democracy Week. Open to library users and members of the public, it is being organised in association with the Rookery House Trust.
This event is a free, open social media surgery where you can learn all about blogging, social media tools and the Hands on Handsworth blog – the things you can use to help spread messages throughout the community and beyond.
Four local schools in the Edgbaston constituency will witness local councillors taking part in a Question Time format discussion during Local Democracy Week. Participating schools – where councillors will talk about political issues affecting people at a local and national level – include: Bartley Green School (October 12th, 1130), Harborne Academy School (13th, 1115), Lordswood Girls’ School (14th, 0930) and Four Dwellings School (21st, 0900).
Local councillors will visit various schools in the Erdington constituency to talk to children and young people about democracy, and engage with them about local issues.
Birmingham Link and Gateway Family Services present a question and answer panel, information stalls, self-help tools and workshops on the subject of dealing with post-natal depression.
Throughout Local Democracy Week there will be a survey on neighbourhood offices in Shard End, Saltley and Bromford, giving local residents a chance to have their say.
In response to recently issued party guidance on the selection of local government candidates, the Conservative Party in Birmingham has refreshed its procedures for becoming a councillor to make the process more transparent and democratic. This free event is being held at the Council Chamber in the Council House, and will feature a panel of Conservative councillors and candidates who will also take questions from the floor. You do not have to be a member of the Conservative Party to attend.
